The Eduardo Frei Foundation, a member organization of ENoP, organised a public conference on “Development co-operation and democracy promotion: democratisation in reverse?” in Apeldoorn, the Netherlands. The main speakers at the conference were Mr. Wilfried Martens - president of the European People’s Party, Mr. Ben Bot - president of the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy and Mr. Aliaksandr Milinkevich - leader of the Belarusian Movement for Freedom and former presidential candidate in the 2006 elections.The conference brought together more than 150 participants.
The Hanns Seidel Foundation and Konrad Adenauer Foundation, both ENoP members, organise a joint conference on "The curse of resources and challenges for state capacity building in the conflict prone Great Lakes Region: What role international and national actors could and should play".
Dr Jürgen D. Wickert, ENoP network coordinator since 2007, is appointed as member of the International Advisory Board of the Memorial Holocaust Museum in FYROM. The official inauguration will take place on 27th October in Skopje,
The 20th and 21st September, the Brussels office of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation hosted the third ENoP Training Course on “Instruments and Thematic Programmes of the EU in Democracy Promotion and Development Cooperation”. 11 participants from 4 ENoP member organisations affiliated to the GUE-NGL party family gathered to empower their EU funding knowledge and to profit more of the ENoP-EU information service.
Currently 14 of the 59 ENoP Member Organisations have a PADOR registration number.
The Constantinos Karamanlis Institute for Democracy, the Centre for European Studies and the Robert Schuman Foundation organise a conference on ''Vital progress for the European Defence Policy''.
Today is the second anniversary of the International Day of Democracy. Two years ago, in November 2007, the UN declared the 15th of September to be the International Day of Democracy, in celebration of the adoption of the Universal Declaration on Democracy by the Inter-Parliamentary Union in 1997. This day is meant as both a celebration of democracy and as a reminder that the need to promote and protect it is as urgent now as ever. The theme in 2009 is “Democracy and political tolerance”.
On 08-09 September the second orientation seminar for representatives of network member organisations was held in Brussels.
The Fundación Nous Horitzons,Spain, is the 59th ENoP Member.
Founded in 1960, the Fundación Nous Horitzons is based in Barcelona and operates according to the principles of the Greens. The ENoP Steering Committee has approved Fundación Nous Horitzons as new member on its meeting of the 9st September.
Currently 12 of the 58 ENoP Member Organisations have a PADOR registration number.
